A Letter From Julia Molloy

A magazine, why a magazine, I thought to myself at 4:30 am as I struggled to sleep. My internal light bulb had gone off and it wouldn’t stop flashing visions of magazine covers, articles and inspirational friends that I could feature, creating insightful articles, and the fun I would have searching for fabulous products to feature.

Over the next few days the concept of starting my own magazine lingered…would this be my next challenge?

As an entrepreneur I’m always evolving and looking for ways to uplift and inspire the design community. The idea of a magazine brings together my background as an international business consultant and focusing on the Business of Luxury Design.

Thinking back to elementary school, I was a sweet (and kind of dorky) sixth grader. I didn’t have cool clothes to wear and no older siblings to show me the ropes. But thankfully I was a straight A student with limitless ideas for my school, Mark Twain Elementary. From wanting to fix up our playground and creating a food donation table for kids who went without. Class elections were coming up and I set my sights on becoming president.

I made posters, wrote a speech, and I even wore my favorite bright yellow pleated dress…but unfortunately I lost. Determined to shine regardless of my obstacles, and with the encouragement of the principal, I decided I would start my very own magazine. I created articles on simple pieces of paper showcasing my best handwriting and taping them together. The ladies in the office even made copies for me. And at the age of 12 I distributed my very first magazine which I called the “The Mark Twain Times.”

A lot has changed since then. I still have a lot of ideas on how to make the world a better place. I am still a little rough around the edges at times and yes, I’m still FABULOUSLY overdressed (unless I’m in yoga pants, which is pretty much all the rest of the time).

BOLD by Design Magazine is truly my encore. I’m ready to change the world. I’m ready to share the BOLD vision. I’m up for the challenge and ready to step onto that big stage.

So, yes, I’m ready to be BOLD.

Let’s begin, shall we?

Julia
